I love doing group quilts. There is always a challenge on what to do with the blocks. Well, since I was the one that suggested the group quilt all I can do is smile as I receive the blocks in the mail. It is so much fun running to the post to pick up envelopes from someone you never met and open them up. Everyone has a different perspective about what is bright and what is colorful! This is the first quilt (I think there may be two at least) that I designed around 4 patches. Everyone that wished to participate was asked to send 2 different size 4 patches ~ One measuring 6 1/2 unfinished and one measuring 4 1/2 unfinished. I sat down and made one myself to figure out a design I would like. I had a design in mind, then scratched the whole idea and came up with this one instead. I already love how it is looking with only 4 sets of blocks!!!
First the small four patch measuring 4 1/2 square.
Add a 1 1/2 inch strip to all sides! I used Kona Bay White.
Next take you 6 1/2 inch unfinished block and cut it up into four 1 1/2 inch strips!
There will be a little center left over that needs to be discarded. I know it was hard to cut up a block but it will add to the quilt!
These strips will be the sashing between the blocks! I will be putting in a white square of fabric between the sashing. Did I tell you this is a scrappy quilt! I already love the look of this! Will be posting photo’s as I go along. Next week I will tell you how I am using some of the 6 1/2 inch unfinished blocks for the border!
This quilt when done will be available for sale in our Team Shop! Here is the link to our shop! ~ https://www.etsy.com/people/QuiltsyTeam
