WIP 3B ~ Quilting and Finishing up on 3D flowers

My quilt background is done with my one flower,  my stems and leaves.  Now onto the quilting stages.

Piecing done!

When I piece a background on an art quilt most of the time I like to do a different quilting design in each area. I collect quilting magazines and if they have a quilting design in it I put them in a notebook so that I can go thru them to see which one I like to use.

The Sun, quilting extends into the border.

I use a shade darker then the background so that the quilting stands out.

Now that the background is all quilted it is time to start adding my  3D flowers. I used a zig zag on the edges of the fold to hold them in place. The rest of the flower tops float and are not attached to the background. Heavily quilted in the centers to keep them in place.

Last thing to sew on is my beautiful embroidered butterflies that I purchased from https://www.etsy.com/shop/QuiltSewLace

All that is left is to put the binding on this quilt with sleeve and a label. I label all my quilts with the name of the quilt “Blooming in the Sun”, my name, the month and year it was finished, and last the number of the quilt.  This is a  great way to keep track of who gets them and where they go.
